The first specimen was lot 950 in Jean Elsen sale 126 (Brussels, September 2015), where it sold for €200 (about US$267 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"SAINT EMPIRE, Ferdinand, archiduc (1564-1595), AR Taler, s.d., Hall. Pour le Tyrol. D/ B. cour. et cuir. à d., ten. un sceptre sur l'épaule. R/ Grand écu couronné, entouré du collier de la Toison d'or. Fines griffes Très Beau à Superbe. (Holy Roman Empire, archduke Ferdinand, undated silver thaler, Hall mint, struck for Tyrol. Obverse: crowned and armored bust to right, holding a scepter and a sword; reverse: large crowned arms, Order of the Golden Fleece around. Fine scratches, very fine to extremely fine.)"

The second specimen was lot 74125 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, September 2023), where it sold for $528. The catalog description[2] noted, "AUSTRIA. Taler, ND (1564-95). Hall Mint. Ferdinand ll. PCGS AU-50. Dove and steel gray cabinet patina are remarkably original in complexion on this boldly struck and attractive piece. Ample mint luster still glistens under a lamp despite some light handling across the higher points. It is rather difficult to find an example from this issue in any grade, so numismatists assembling sets of European crowns should be overjoyed with the opportunity to acquire such a problem free and truly eye appealing Taler. Ex: Claude R. Collier (Crowns of the World Sale) (03/1956), lot #1189 (with ticket)." Davenport notes a considerable number of thalers and multiple thalers struck for the archduke, Dav-8088 thru Dav-8103, all without dates. None are rare.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: silver, the first specimen 28,16 g.

Catalog reference: Dav-8094, M.T. 274 var. The second specimen is Dav-8094A (different pattern on the breastplate).
