Alsace (1564-95) thaler Dav-8089
The first specimen was lot 50315 in Ponterio sale 168 (Philadelphia, August 2012), where it sold for $658. The catalog description[1] noted, "Taler, ND. Ensisheim Mint. NGC MS-62. Archduke Ferdinand (1564-95). Legend end with 'AVSTR', lacking the 'IAE'." The second specimen was lot 32420 in Heritage sale 3042 (Long Beach, September 2015), where it sold for $294.93. The catalog description[2] noted, "Archduke Ferdinand Taler ND (1564-1595) XF/AU. Ensisheim mint. Interesting legend error with 'Austriae' misspelled as 'Austiae'. One scratch in obverse field, otherwise choice XF/AU." Davenport notes a considerable number of thalers and multiple thalers struck for the archduke, Dav-8088 thru Dav-8103, all without dates. None are rare.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: silver.
