Alsace (1584-1602) thaler Dav-8091
This specimen was lot 1490 in Sincona sale 63 (Zürich, June 2020), where it sold for 425 CHF (about US$533 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"HOLY ROMAN EMPIRE - AUSTRIA, Erzherzog Ferdinand II. 1564-1595. Taler o. J. (1584/1602), Ensisheim. Sehr schön-vorzüglich. Feine Patina. Übliche Schrötlingsfehler. (Holy Roman Empire, archduke Ferdinand II, 1564-95, undated thaler, Ensisheim mint. Very fine-extremely fine, Nicely toned, With the usual flan defect.)"
Davenport notes a considerable number of thalers and multiple thalers struck for the archduke, Dav-8088 thru Dav-8103, all without dates. None are rare.
