Sincona sale 11, lot 2325
Ensisheim in upper Alsace. The political situation is of 1477, on the collapse of the Burgundians. Upper Alsace would be ruled by the Hapsburgs until 1648 when it passed to France.

This specimen was lot 2325 in Sincona sale 11 (Zürich, May 2013), where it sold for 250 CHF (about US$310 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"RDR/ÖSTERREICH Erzherzog Ferdinand II. 1564-1595. Taler o. J., Ensisheim. Sehr schön-gutes sehr schön. (Austria, archduke Ferdinand II, 1564-95, thaler without date. Ensisheim mint, Very fine to good very fine.)"

Davenport notes a considerable number of thalers and multiple thalers struck for the archduke, Dav-8088 thru Dav-8103, all without dates. None are rare.
