Mexico 1881-Do P 5 centavos

from the Stack's Bowers sale of the Kirk Menczer Collection, lot 71111

This specimen was lot 71111 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, October 2025), where it sold for $2,880. The catalog description^[1] noted, "MEXICO. 5 Centavos, 1881-Do P. Durango Mint. NGC MS-63. Tied with one other for finest of three graded at NGC. From the Kirk Menczer Collection of Republican Decimal Minors." Shown is an 1881-D^O P five centavos, of a type struck 1874, 1877-81 and 1887-94. This issue from Durango is the key date for the mint. The Durango mint was closed in 1895.

Recorded mintage: 3,020, a very rare date.

Specification: 1.35 g, 0.903 fine silver, 14 mm diameter, reeded edge.
