Chihuahua Mint. NGC UNC Details—Cleaned. This decently preserved and attractive example displays rich mottled patina over boldly struck devices with much remaining luster. Close inspection reveals evidence of a past cleaning on the reverse, now slightly subdued and pleasing. Despite its shortcomings, a pleasant example of the type." The Chihuahua mint began casting eight reales in 1810 in the opening part of the War of Independence. Machinery was obtained and portrait eight reales were produced 1814-22. The first cap and ray eight reales was issued in 1831. The early issues are rare but become more common after 1842. The 1881 is common. Assayer MG is listed for 1881-82.
