Shown is a balance scale fifty centavos, of a type struck 1869-1895. This issue from Guanajuato is common, with the 1881/79 overdate (shown here) nearly as common. This specimen was lot 9184 in Ponterio sale 159 (Baltimore, March 2011), where it sold for $1,035. The catalog description^[1] noted, “MEXICO. Guanajuato. 50 Centavos, 1881/79-GoS. Sharply struck, beautifully toned. Very attractive. NGC MS-65.”

Specification: 13.54 g, 0.903 fine silver, .393 troy oz ASW.

Recorded mintage: 32,000.
