Künker sale 294, lot 3736

This specimen was lot 3736 in Künker sale 294 (Osnabrück, Germany, July 2017), where it sold for €1,400 (about US$1,887 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"REGENSBURG, STADT, 1/4 Dukat o. J. (1745-1765), mit Titel von Franz I. Slg. Bach (Auktion Künker 238) 4806. GOLD. Vorzüglich. Exemplar der Auktion UBS 64, Zürich 2006, Nr. 1247. (Germany, city of Regensburg, undated quarter ducat, struck in the name of Francis I. Extremely fine.)"

This quarter ducat was minted in the free city of Regensburg sometime before 1750 in conjunction with half, one, two, 3, 4, 5 and 6 ducats. It was probably minted to apologize to Francis I for supporting his rival Karl VII in the War of the Austrian Succession.

Recorded mintage: unknown but scarce.

Specification: 0.87 g, 0.986 fine gold, this specimen 0,88 g.
