Regensburg (1745-50) 3 ducat Fr-2536
This specimen was lot 6598 in Künker sale 336 (Osnabrück, Germany, March 2020), where it sold for €2,400 (about US$3,141 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"REGENSBURG, STADT, 3 Dukaten o. J. mit Titel von Franz I. In US-Plastikholder der NGC mit der Bewertung VF Details. GOLD. RR Gelocht, etwas gewellt, fast sehr schön. (Germany, city of Regensburg, undated triple ducat struck in the name of Francis I, in NGC holder graded VF details. Rare, holed, bent, about very fine.)"
This is one of several very similar triple ducats minted in the free city of Regensburg sometime before 1750 in conjunction with quarter, half, one, two, four, five and six ducats. It was probably minted to apologize to Francis I for supporting his rival Karl VII in the War of the Austrian Succession.
