Mexico 1873-Do M 50 centavos

Shown is a balance scale fifty centavos, of a type struck 1869-1895. This issue from Durango is rare, priced in the SCWC at ten times a common Guanajuato date. Assayer P is also known, also rare. This specimen was lot 9164 in Ponterio sale 159 (Baltimore, March 2011), where it sold for $230. The catalog description^[1] noted, “MEXICO. Durango. 50 Centavos, 1873-DoM/P. Scarce date. Toned, nice strike. BOLD VERY FINE.”

Specification: 13.54 g, 0.903 fine silver, .393 troy oz ASW.

Recorded mintage: 4,010 (assayer P and M).
