Steve Album sale 55, lot 1129

This specimen was lot 1129 in Steve Album Auction 55 (Santa Rosa, CA, May 2026), where it sold for $216. The catalog description^[1] noted, "MEXICO: Republic, AR 8 reales, San Luís Potosí, 1879-Pi, assayer MH, a bright lustrous example, PCGS graded MS61, ex Bob "Swamperbob" Gurney Collection. Tied with one other example for highest graded (Top Pop) at PCGS." Assayer MH is listed for the San Luis Potosi mint for 1873-85 along with assayer MR (1879-80 and 1886-93) and BE (1879 only). The 1879-MR is scarce, the 1879-BE is somewhat scarce and the 1879-MH is common. An 1879/8 overdate is reported.
