SB1025-71037r.jpg

This specimen was lot 71037 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, October 2025), where it sold for $840. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. Centavo, 1879/8-Mo. Mexico City Mint. NGC MS-65 Brown. Finest and only numerically graded of just two examples in NGC Census. Rare overdate. From the Kirk Menczer Collection of Republican Decimal Minors." The regular 1879-MO is fairly common while the overdate shown here qualifies as slightly scarce. The Mexico City mint was by far the largest producer of this denomination and the only one whose products are available in Unicirculated.

Specification: 7.6 g, copper, 25 mm diameter, reeded edge.

Catalog reference: KM-391.6.
