This specimen was lot 21073 in Heritage sale 61630 (Dallas, February 2024), where it sold for $384. The lot description[1] noted, "Mexico: Republic 8 Reales 1879 Ca-AV MS61 NGC, Chihuahua mint. Seldom seen in Mint State designations, with the vast majority of those coming to market impaired or circulated. Of those currently certified at NGC, only a single ranks finer by a single point." The Chihuahua mint struck eight reales 1831-95. Many of the early dates are rare but most of the later dates, including this one, are fairly common. Other mints for 1879 include Alamos, Culiacan, Durango, Guadalajara, Guanajuato, Hermosillo, Mexico City, Oaxaca, San Luis Potosi and Zacatecas.
