Sedwick Treasure auction 26, lot 1044

This specimen was lot 1044 in Sedwick Treasure Auction 26 (Winter Park, FL, November 2019), where it sold for $428.40. The catalog description[1] noted, "Durango, Mexico, cap-and-rays 8 reales, 1879TB, NGC MS 64. Choice luster with patchy rainbow toning, parts of rims weak, tied with one other for second finest in NGC census behind a single MS 65." The Durango mint struck this type 1825-95 and this date is common. Assayer TB is listed for 1878-80.

Recorded mintage: unknown but common.

Specification: 27.07 g, 0.903 fine silver.
