Mexico 1879-Pi H 50 centavos

from the Stack's Bowers sale of the Kirk Menczer Collection, lot 72296

This specimen was lot 72296 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, October 2025), where it sold for $105. The catalog description^[1] noted, "MEXICO. 50 Centavos, 1879-Pi H. San Luis Potosi Mint. NGC AU Details--Cleaned. Second finest of two graded by NGC. Both are Details. From the Kirk Menczer Collection of Republican Decimal Minors." The San Luis Potosi struck this silver fifty centavos 1870-87 and is accounted a slightly better mint. An 1879/7 overdate is reported for the year. The mint was closed in 1893.

Recorded mintage: unknown but a fairly common date.

Specification: 13.54 g, 0.903 fine silver, 30.5 mm diameter, reeded edge.
