Stack's Bowers November 2023 Collector's Choice sale, lot 70678

This specimen was lot 70678 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, November 2023), where it sold for $408. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. 8 Reales, 1879/8-Mo MH. Mexico City Mint. NGC MS-63. Featuring an evident overdate, this example is beautifully preserved with strong gleam in the fields and iridescent gold and purple tone that brightens as the coins is tilted against the light." This overdate is common, as is the regular date. The SCWC lists assayer MH for 1877-89.

Recorded mintage: unknown but common.

Specification: 27.07 g, 0.903 fine silver, .786 troy oz ASW.
