This specimen was lot 72594 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice Online Auction (Santa Ana, CA, May 2017), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. Escudo, 1846-CCE. NGC AU-58. VERY SCARCE date, first year of issue for this mint. Nice strike with light toning and strong luster. Quite attractive." The Culiacan mint struck this type 1846-70 and this date is priced by the SCWC only 25% higher than a common Mexico City issue.
