This specimen was lot 72071 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, June 2022), where it sold for $432. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. 4 Reales, 1846-Go PM. Guanajuato Mint. NGC AU-55. A great example of this lesser-seen smaller denomination, the present piece offers an amber-gray tone, little evidence of any actual handling, and some charming brilliance emanating from the protected areas." This is one of a type struck at the Guanajuato mint 1835-70. Assayer PM is recorded for 1842-48. Ten mints (Mexico City, Guanajuato, Zacatecas, Potosi, Oaxaca, Hermosillo, Real del Catorce, Guadalupe y Calvo, Guadalajara and Culiacan) struck this type of which Zacatecas is tied with Guanajuato as the commonest mint. This date is slightly scarce.
