Stack's Bowers June 2026 World Premier Collectors Choice Auction, lot 72270

This specimen was lot 72270 in Stack's Bowers June 2026 World Premier Collectors Choice Auction (Costa Mesa, CA, June 2026), where it sold for $390.40. The catalog description^[1] noted, "MEXICO. Real, 1846-C CE. Culiacan Mint. NGC EF-45. Very scarce first year issue of mint. Only example graded by NGC. From the Kirk Menczer Collection of Republican Reales Minors." Of the fourteen mints of the Republic of Mexico, only Oaxaca and Real de Catorce did not strike this type. Unlike the half reales, which appear occasionally in gem condition, this denomination nearly always comes heavily circulated. One reales are recorded from Culiacan for 1846-63 and 1869. Assayer CE served until 1870.
