Hannover 1714-HCB 1/3 thaler
The first specimen was lot 674 in Künker sale 293 (Osnabrück, Germany, July 2017), where it sold for €240 (about US$324 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"BRAUNSCHWEIG-LÜNEBURG, HERZOGTUM Georg I. Ludwig, 1698-1714. 1/3 Taler 1714, Clausthal. Prägung ohne den Titel "König von Großbritannien". RR Hübsche Patina, sehr schön. (Germany, electorate of Brunswick-Luneburg, George Louis, 1698-1714, one-third thaler of 1714, Clausthal mint, struck without the title 'King of Great Britain.' Rare, handsome patina, very fine.)"
The second specimen was lot 5687 in Künker sale 354 (Osnabrück, Germany, September 2021), where it sold for €400 (about US$557 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[2] noted,
"BRAUNSCHWEIG UND LÜNEBURG, BRAUNSCHWEIG-LÜNEBURG, FÜRSTENTUM, Georg I. Ludwig, 1698-1714. 1/3 Taler 1714, Clausthal. RR Vorzüglich. Aus der Sammlung eines Ingenieurs. Exemplar der Auktion Fritz Rudolf Künker 90, Osnabrück 2004, Nr. 5233. (duchy of Brunswick-Luneburg-Calenberg-Hannover, George Louis, 1698-1714, one-third thaler of 1714, Clausthal mint. Very rare, extremely fine.)"
This one-third thaler or half gulden was struck 1712-15. It is listed in the SCWC as common.
