Hannover 1716-HCB ducat Fr-585
This specimen was lot 20345 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2020), where it sold for $6,000. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Brunswick-Calenberg-Hannover. Ducat, 1716-HCB. Clausthal Mint. George Ludwig (George I of England). PCGS Genuine--Tooled, AU Details Gold Shield. A fairly SCARCE two year issue, this piece was struck just after George Ludwig succeeded Anne as the monarch of Great Britain. Meanwhile, he still retained his title as the elector of Hannover. Some light tooling is noted in the reverse field, along with minor, even wear, but some hints of lustrous brilliance remain." This type was struck 1715-16 along with KM 103, which was struck 1715-17, 1723, 1727 but rarer.
