Künker sale 354, lot 5696

This specimen was lot 5696 in Künker sale 354 (Osnabrück, Germany, September 2021), where it sold for €2,800 (about US$3,897 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"BRAUNSCHWEIG UND LÜNEBURG, BRAUNSCHWEIG-LÜNEBURG, FÜRSTENTUM, - als Georg I. König von Großbritannien, 1714-1727. Reichstaler 1717, Clausthal. Ausbeute der Harzer Gruben. Mit Randschrift: DAS Ë LAND Ë DIE Ë FRUCHTE Ë BRINGT Ë - IM Ë HARTZ Ë DER Ë THALER Ë KLINGT Ë. RR Sehr attraktives Exemplar mit feiner Patina, vorzüglich. Aus der Sammlung eines Ingenieurs. Exemplar der Auktion Kurpfälzische Münzhandlung 47, Mannheim 1994, Nr. 514 und der Slg. Köhlmoos, Auktion Münzen und Medaillen AG 91, Basel 2001, Nr. 183. (Germany, duchy of Brunswick-Luneburg-Calenberg-Hannover, as George I, king of Great Britain, 1714-27, thaler of 1717, Clausthal mint, for the Harz mines. With edge lettering. This type, with a leaping stallion on the reverse, was struck 1716-18. St. Andrew thalers, wild man thalers and bust thalers were also struck at this time.

Recorded mintage: unknown but rather scarce.
