Stack's Bowers November 2023 Collector's Choice sale, lot 73573

This specimen was lot 73573 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, November 2023), where it sold for $336. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Brunswick-Luneburg: Hannover. Taler, 1718-HH. Zellerfeld Mint; mm: crossed axes between HH. Georg Ludwig (George I of Great Britain). PCGS Genuine--Cleaned, AU Details. This Taler exhibits uniform argent surfaces mellowed with a pleasing layer of champagne throughout. Well struck with excellent detail throughout and only very light wear. Attractive. From the Robert C. Knepper Collection. Includes ticket from Kuenker." This wild man thaler was struck 1717-27 and is fairly common.
