Hannover 1718-HH thaler Dav-2076
This specimen was lot 73574 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, November 2023), where it sold for $432. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Brunswick-Luneburg: Hannover. Taler, 1718-HH. Zellerfeld Mint; mm: crossed axes between HH. Georg Ludwig (George I of Great Britain). PCGS EF-45. This coin presents argent gray surfaces with mottled splashes of charcoal gray. Well struck in the central fields with just a couple of areas of inconsequential softness in the legends. An attractive example with light wear. From the Robert C. Knepper Collection. Ex: Frankfurter Munzhandlung 152, Lot #600 (with ticket)." This wild man thaler was struck 1716-27 and is fairly common.
