This specimen was lot 10289 in Ponterio sale 169 (Baltimore, November 2012), where it sold for $558. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Brunswick-Luneburg-Calenberg-Hannover. Taler, 1719-C. PCGS AU-53 Secure Holder. George Ludwig (1698-1727)." This type was issued 1717-27. Wild man thalers were issued from this locality as late as 1755. George Ludwig was promoted to king of England on the death of his cousin Anne Stuart in 1714. This is the period when the electorate ceased to be known as Brunswick-Luneburg and called Hannover instead.
Recorded mintage: unknown but somewhat scarce.
