Hannover 1717-HH thaler Dav-2076
This specimen was lot 73572 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, November 2023), where it sold for $288. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Brunswick-Luneburg: Hannover. Taler, 1717-HH. Zellerfeld Mint; mm: crossed axes between HH. Georg Ludwig (George I of Great Britain). PCGS Genuine--Cleaned, AU Details. This piece offers light argent surfaces with the thinnest hints of magenta and champagne throughout. Evenly struck though with some slight shadowing on the reverse opposite the Wild Man. Very light wear. A solid, attractive example of the type. From the Robert C. Knepper Collection." This wild man thaler was struck 1716-27 and is fairly common.
