This specimen was lot 1865 in Künker sale 352 (Osnabrück, Germany, September 2021), where it sold for €4,600 (about US$6,402 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"BRAUNSCHWEIG UND LÜNEBURG, BRAUNSCHWEIG-CALENBERG-HANNOVER, AB 1692 KURFURSTENTUM HANNOVER, Georg I. Ludwig, 1698-1714. Dukat 1698, Clausthal. GOLD. R Leicht gewellt, winz. Kratzer, vorzüglich. (Germany, electorate of Brunswick-Luneburg-Calenberg-Hannover, George Louis, 1698-1714, ducat of 1698, Clausthal mint. Rare, slightly wavy, minor scratches, extremely fine.)"

The duchy was elevated to the status of electorate in 1692. Georg Ludwig, elector 1698-1727, became king of England in 1714. This rare type was struck until 1714. While Brunswick-Luneburg was a profuse issuer of thalers, gold was only struck rarely.
