Stack's Bowers 2023 ANA sale, lot 55551

This specimen was lot 55551 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Pittsburgh, PA, August 2023), where it sold for $240. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Brunswick-Luneburg: Hannover. Taler, 1698-RB. Zellerfeld Mint. Georg I Ludwig (future George I of Great Britain). Very Fine Details -- Scratched. From the Robert C. Knepper Collection." The elector issued three thalers in 1698, of which this is the only one signed "RB". It was struck 1698-99 and is somewhat scarce. Georg Ludwig succeeded his cousin Anne Stuart as king of Great Britain in 1714.
