from Künker sale 354, lot 5672

This specimen was lot 5672 in Künker sale 354 (Osnabrück, Germany, September 2021), where it sold for €300 (about US$418 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"BRAUNSCHWEIG UND LÜNEBURG, BRAUNSCHWEIG-LÜNEBURG, FÜRSTENTUM, Ernst August, 1679-1698, seit 1662 Bischof von Osnabrück. 1/8 Reichstaler 1698, Clausthal, auf seinen Tod am 23. Januar. R Hübsche Patina, fast vorzüglich. Aus der Sammlung eines Ingenieurs. Exemplar der Auktion Fritz Rudolf Künker 49, Osnabrück 1999, Nr. 1783. (Germany, duchy of Brunswick-Luneburg-Calenberg, Ernest Augustus, 1679-98, bishop of Osnabrück since 1662, one eighth thaler of 1698, Clausthal mint, on his death on January 23. Rare, handsome patina, about extremely fine.)"

This commemorative of the death of the duke was accompanied by a quarter thaler, half thaler (KM 408) and single thaler (Dav-6651). His successor, Georg Ludwig, succeeded to the throne of Great Britain in 1714.
