Brunswick-Luneburg-Calenberg 1698 1/2 thaler
This specimen was lot 5671 in Künker sale 354 (Osnabrück, Germany, September 2021), where it sold for €1,1060 (about US$1,531 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"BRAUNSCHWEIG UND LÜNEBURG, BRAUNSCHWEIG-LÜNEBURG, FÜRSTENTUM, Ernst August, 1679-1698, seit 1662 Bischof von Osnabrück. 1/2 Reichstaler 1698, Clausthal, auf seinen Tod am 23. Januar. Selten in dieser Erhaltung. Herrliche Patina, vorzüglich. Aus der Sammlung eines Ingenieurs. Exemplar der Auktion Westfälische Auktionsgesellschaft 2, Dortmund 1993, Nr. 833. (Germany, duchy of Brunswick-Luneburg-Calenberg, Ernest Augustus, 1679-98, bishop of Osnabrück since 1662, .)"
This commemorative of the death of the duke was accompanied by a quarter thaler, eighth thaler (KM 410) and single thaler (Dav-6651). His successor, Georg Ludwig, succeeded to the throne of Great Britain in 1714.
