Künker Auction 425, lot 1499

This specimen was lot 1499 in Künker Auction 425 (Osnabrück, July 2025), where it sold for €2,400 (about US$3,399 including buyers' fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"DEUTSCHE MÜNZEN UND MEDAILLEN · BRAUNSCHWEIG-LÜNEBURG-CELLE, FÜRSTENTUM Georg Wilhelm, 1665-1705. Dukat 1697, Celle. GOLD. RR Sehr schön. (Germany, duchy of Brunswick-Lüneburg-Celle, George William, 1665-1705, ducat of 1697, Celle mint. Very rare, very fine.)"

Georg Wilhelm was the last duke of the Celle line. On his death, the domain passed to Brunswick-Lüneburg-Calenberg-Hannover. This rare type is listed for 1693 and 1697.
