This specimen was lot 71466 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, September 2025), where it sold for $3,840. The catalog description[1] noted, "FRANCE. Empire (Les Cent-Jours). 5 Francs, 1815-BB. Strasbourg Mint. Napoleon I. PCGS Genuine--Scratch, EF Details. A VERY RARE and seldom encountered type from Napoleon's brief recapturing of power in the spring of 1815, this crown does a minor scratch and some cleaning marks, but is nevertheless impressive and important. From the Richard Margolis Collection (acquired from Weil in 1989 for $1,258). Ex: Alain Weil (6/1989) Lot # 416." It was officially withdrawn from circulation in 1928 and demonetized in 2005 but ceased to circulate in France after World War One.

Recorded mintage: 3,723[2], a rare date, plus 1,545 for Louis XVIII.

Specification: 25 g, 0.900 fine silver, 37 mm diameter, edge lettered DIEU PROTEGE LA FRANCE. Designed by Pierre Joseph Tiolier, 1763-1819.
