This specimen was lot 22236 in Heritage sale 61352 (Dallas, December 2023), where it sold for $2,040. The catalog description[1] noted, "France: Napoleon gold "Hundred Days" 20 Francs 1815-W XF45 PCGS, Lille mint. A coveted "Cent Jours" specimen, and a choice example at this grade point." This issue of the "Hundred Days" (Napoleon's return from Elba to his final defeat at Waterloo) is not rare but brings a premium because of its historical associations. Paris and Bayonne also struck this type in 1815.

Recorded mintage: 9,369 plus 134,556 for Louis XVIII.

Specification: 6.45 g, 0.900 fine gold, 21 mm diameter, edge lettered DIEU PROTEGE LA FRANCE, designed by Pierre Joseph Tiolier.
