Jean Elsen sale 137, lot 1058

This specimen was lot 1058 in Jean Elsen sale 137 (Brussels, June 2018), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted,

"FRANCE, Louis XVIII, première restauration (1814-1815), AR 5 francs, 1815L, Bayonne. Nettoyé. presque Superbe. (kingdom of France, Louis XVIII, first restoration of 1814-15, silver five francs of 1815, Bayonne mint. Cleaned, about extremely fine.)"

This type was struck 1814-15 and many of the 31 known dates are rare. This one is somewhat better.

Recorded mintage: 1,129,771 (including 1815/4) plus 96,584 of F.307A/5 (Napoleon).

Specification: 37 mm diameter, 25 grams, 0.900 fine silver, .723 troy oz AGW.
