This specimen was lot 13127 in Ponterio sale 177 (Chicago, August 2013), where it sold for $4,700. The catalog description[3] noted, "FRANCE. 5 Franc, 1815-I. PCGS MS-64 Secure Holder. Minted at Limoges. A very attractive example of this scarce and popular '100 days' issue." This is the most common Napoleonic issue of 1815. Five francs of Louis XVIII also exist for 1815 and are quite a bit more available.

Recorded mintage: 596,076[2].

Specification: 25 g, 0.900 fine silver, 37 mm diameter, edge lettered DIEU PROTEGE LA FRANCE, designed by Pierre Joseph Tiolier.
