Stack's Bowers June 2026 World Premier Collectors Choice Auction, lot 71261

This specimen was lot 71261 in Stack's Bowers June 2026 World Premier Collectors Choice Auction (Costa Mesa, CA, June 2026), where it sold for $1,342. The catalog description^[1] noted, "FRANCE. Kingdom (First Restoration). 5 Francs, 1815-D. Lyon Mint. Louis XVIII. PCGS Genuine--Damage, EF Details. A SCARCER type with a fairly small output, this example features pale gray toning across both sides. From the Richard Margolis Collection (acquired from Franceschi on 31 May 1969 in Brussels for $16.20)." This type was struck 1814-15 and many of the 31 known dates are rare. This one is very scarce. While many mints struck five francs for Napoleon during the Hundred Days, Lyon did not.

Recorded mintage: 7,470 (7,482 per the SCWC).

Specification: 25 g, 0.900 fine silver, 37 mm diameter, lettered edge, designed by Pierre-Joseph Tiolier.
