Cuba H3081-30413r.jpg

This specimen was part of lot 30413 in Heritage sale 3081 (New York, January 2020), which sold for $5,760. The catalog description[1] noted, "Cuba, Republic Pair of Certified gold Proof "Ernesto Che Guevara" Multiple Pesos 1988 Ultra Cameo NGC, 1) 50 Pesos - PR70. 2) 100 Pesos - PR69, KM 203. Mintage: 100. An immaculate pair of low-mintage issues, both commemorating the life and accomplishments of Ernesto "Che" Guevara. The 50 Pesos stands as the lone certified example in the NGC Census, while the 100 Pesos ties for finest certified with only one other, the total certified population of the latter comprised of only 6 examples to-date. From the El Don Diego Luna Collection." The year 1988 saw the release of many self-congratulatory NCLT's by the Cuban regime. Greeted by disinterest by the world at large, many are now rare.

Recorded mintage: 150 proofs.

Specification: 15.55 g, 0.999 fine gold, 0.500 troy oz AGW.

Catalog reference: KM 209, Fr-18.
