Heritage sale 3073, lot 32673
Cuba H3073-32673r.jpg

This specimen was lot 32673 in Heritage sale 3073 (Chicago, April 2019), where it sold for $1,440. The catalog description[1] noted, "Republic gold 10 Pesos 1988 MS69 NGC, Philadelphia mint." Desperate for foreign exchange, Cuba has issued large numbers of NCLT's, many only vaguely related to Cuba. Martí, best known as the author of "Guantanamera", has been adopted as a hero of the Cuban revolution, tho it seems unlikely that he would have much sympathy with the Communists. The bust used here originally appeared on the Cuban gold issues of 1915-16, minted in Philadelphia.

Recorded mintage: 50 plus 10 proofs.

Specification: 3.11 g, 0.999 fine gold, reeded edge.

Catalog reference: Fr-24, KM 211.
