Cuba 1988 20 pesos KM-234
This specimen was lot 1705 in Jean Elsen sale 152 (Brussels, September 2022), where it sold for €80 (about US$97 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"CUBA, République (1902-), AR 20 pesos (2 oz), 1988. 160 ans de la ligne ferroviaire Liverpool-Manchester. 1000 p. frappées. Flan poli. (republic of Cuba, silver twenty pesos (two troy oz) of 1988, 160th anniversary of the Liverpool-Manchester railway, 1,000 pieces struck. Proof.)"
The year 1988 saw the release of many self-congratulatory NCLT's by the Cuban regime. Greeted by disinterest from the world at large, many are now rare. We don't know the significance of this NCLT to Cuban history.
