Jean Elsen sale 152, lot 1704

This specimen was lot 1704 in Jean Elsen sale 152 (Brussels, September 2022), where it sold for €85 (about US$103 including buyer's fees). The catalog description^[1] noted,

"CUBA, République (1902-), AR 20 pesos (2 oz), 1988. 140 ans de la ligne ferroviaire Barcelone-Mataró. 1000 p. frappées. Flan poli. (republic of Cuba, silver twenty pesos (two troy oz) of 1988, 140th anniversary of the Barcelona-Mataró railway, 1,000 pieces struck. Proof.)"

The year 1988 saw the release of many self-congratulatory NCLT's by the Cuban regime. Greeted by disinterest from the world at large, many are now rare.
