Cuba, desperate for foreign exchange, issued a blizzard of commemoratives starting in the early 1980's. This one honors Carlos Finlay, the doctor who established that the mosquito was the vector for yellow fever. His discoveries, developed by others, greatly reduced the loss of life among the construction workers digging the Panama Canal. This design was also used on a copper peso (KM 512). Other NCLT's in the one peso denomination included KM 324, 363, 513.
Recorded mintage: 2,000.
Specification: copper-nickel, 30 mm diameter.
Catalog reference: KM 282.
