Aureo sale 269, lot 645

This specimen was lot 645 in Aureo sale 269 (Barcelona, July 2015), where it sold for €1,900 (about US$2,455 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"1988. Cuba. 100 pesos. AU. Ernesto Che Guevara. Acuñación de 100 ejemplares. Rara. 31,06 g. Proof. (Cuba, gold one hundred pesos of 1988, for Ernesto "Che" Guevara, mintage of 100 pieces, rare, proof.)"

Desperate for foreign exchange, Cuba has issued large numbers of NCLT's, many only vaguely related to Cuba. This type was accompanied by a gold fifty pesos (Fr-18) and silver ten pesos (KM 163).

Recorded mintage: 100, all proof.

Specification: 31.10 g, 0.999 fine gold, this specimen 31,02 g.
