This specimen was lot 30377 in Heritage sale 3081 (New York, January 2020), where it sold for $2,640. The catalog description^[1] noted, "Cuba, Republic gold Proof "First Train in Spain" 100 Pesos 1989 PR69 Ultra Cameo NGC. Commemorating the 140th anniversary of the first Spanish railway. From the El Don Diego Luna Collection." The year 1989 saw the release of many self-congratulatory NCLT's by the regime along with such essentially Cuban topics as the fall of the Bastille and the first Spanish railway (shown here). Greeted by disinterest from the world at large, many are now rare.
