The first specimen was lot 33608 in Heritage sale 3082 (New York, January 2020), where it sold for $1,050. The catalog description[1] noted, "Cuba: Republic gold Proof "160th Anniversary of First Train in England" 50 Pesos 1989 PR69 Ultra Cameo NGC. From the El Don Diego Luna Collection." The second specimen was lot 1183 in Sedwick Auction 36 (Winter Park, FL, November 2024), where it sold for $4,800. The catalog description[2] noted, "CUBA, Havana mint, gold proof piefort 50 pesos, 1989, First Train in England 160th Anniversary, NGC PF 69 Ultra Cameo (EMO Collection Label), finest known in NGC census. Virtually perfect with NGC status to match (the single finest of just five in the census), from a reported mintage of just 12 pieces. Pedigreed to The Emilio M. Ortiz Collection of Cuban Gold Coins." After a hiatus from 1981 to 1988, the regime resumed the issue of gold and silver NCLT's in large quantities. This design was also issued in 1 oz silver (KM 207) and 1 oz gold (KM 316).
