Jean Elsen sale 152, lot 1708

This specimen was lot 1708 in Jean Elsen sale 152 (Brussels, September 2022), where it sold for €80 (about US$97 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"CUBA, République (1902-), AR 20 pesos (2 oz), 1989. En marche vers la victoire. 500 p. frappées. Flan poli. (republic of Cuba, silver twenty pesos (two troy oz) of 1989, march to victory, 500 pieces struck. Proof.)"

The year 1988 saw the release of many self-congratulatory NCLT's by the Cuban regime. Greeted by disinterest from the world at large, many are now rare. This type was struck 1987-89.

Recorded mintage: 500 proofs.
