Kunker sale 263, part of lot 594

This specimen was lot 594 in Künker sale 263 (Osnabrück, June 2015), where it sold for €650 (about US$840 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"BADEN-DURLACH, SEIT 1806 GROSSHERZOGTUM Friedrich I. 1852-1856-1907. Vereinsdoppeltaler 1854. Prinz und Regent. Sehr schön. (grand duchy of Baden-Durlach, Frederick I, 1856-1907, double union thaler of 1854, showing Frederick as prince and regent. Very fine.)"

Despite the substantial mintage, this type is rare. The grand duchy issued coins until 1918.

Recorded mintage: 85,000.

Specification: 37.12 g, 0.900 fine silver.
