This specimen was lot 1125 in Sincona sale 66 (Zürich, October 2020), where it sold for 300 CHF (about US$395 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"DEUTSCHLAND | Baden-Durlach, ab 1806 Grossherzogtum. Friedrich I. als Prinzregent, 1852-1856. Doppelgulden 1856, Karlsruhe. Sehr schön. (Germany, grand duchy of Baden, Frederick I, as regent 1852-56, double gulden of 1856, Karlsruhe mint. Very fine.)"

The second specimen was lot 4924 in Künker sale 386 (Osnabrück, March 2023), where it sold for €650 (about US$840 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"BADEN-DURLACH, MARKGRAFSCHAFT, SEIT 1803 KURFÜRSTENTUM, SEIT 1806 GROSSHERZOGTUM, Friedrich I. 1852-1856-1907. Doppelgulden 1856. Prinz und Regent. Hübsche Patina, vorzüglich. (grand duchy of Baden, Frederick I, 1856-1907, double gulden of 1856, as prince and regent. Handsome patina, extremely fine.)"

The grand duchy issued coins until 1918 but this scarce issue is the last of the denomination.

Recorded mintage: 83,720.

Specification: 21.21 g, 0.900 fine silver, the first specimen 21.11 g. The second specimen is 21,16 g.
