This specimen was lot 3669 in Stacks-Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2015), where it sold for $540.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Hesse-Cassel. 2 Taler, 1854-CP. NGC MS-62. Rich multicolored iridescent toning. Crisp details. From the Rockaway Collection." This three year type is fairly scarce, as is most of the coinage of this state, which was annexed by Prussia in 1866.
Recorded mintage: 141,000.
