Sincona sale 6, lot 558

This specimen was lot 558 in Sincona sale 6 (Zürich, May 2012), where it sold for 350 CHF (about US$431 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"DEUTSCHLAND Baden-Durlach, ab 1806 Grossherzogtum Karl Leopold Friedrich, 1830-1852. Doppelter Vereinstaler 1852. Kl. Kr. Sehr schön-vorzüglich. (Germany, Grand Duchy of Baden, Leopold Frederick, 1830-52, double union thaler of 1852. Lightly cleaned, very fine to extremely fine.)"

This type of 1845-52 has low mintages but is common, suggesting that it was saved. The grand duchy issued coins until 1918.

Recorded mintage: 60,000.

Specification: 37.12 g, 0.900 fine silver, 1.074 troy oz ASW; this specimen is 37,13 g.
