This specimen was lot 72169 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, May 2023), where it sold for $144. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Baden. 1/2 Kreuzer, 1852. Karlsruhe Mint. Leopold I. NGC MS-67 Brown. A Superb-Gem through and through, this example demonstrates strong eye appeal and much charm." The grand duke minted this type in 1842-52. The last gulden (sixty kreuzer) was struck in 1867 and the last half kreuzer was struck in 1871, the year of unification.
